OHSAA STATE TOURNAMENT... |
| |

The CVCA Royals wrestling team advanced 5 wrestlers to the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at The Ohio State University on March 4th-6th, 2010. The Lord blessed this year's team with one of the best finishes in school history. For only the second time in CVCA Wrestling history
the Royals finished as State Runners-Up in Division III.

VIDEO: Coach Lorence Interview

Leading the way for the Royals was freshman Nathan Tomasello who finished as State Champion at 103 lbs. Nathan won in the finals against Keystone's Brian Spangler. Nathan became only the second freshman in CVCA history to win a
state title as a freshman following the tradition of CVCA great Harry Lester.

Alex Utley continued to improve on his excellent career. After finishing third as a freshman and second as a sophomore, Alex again finished as State Runner-Up at 171 lbs. Alex lost 7-5 in the finals against
Monroeville's Chris Phillips who is ranked #1 in the country.

Senior Zak Vargo at 135 lbs. finished in third place for the second year in a row.
Zak defeated Heath's Dom Barlow 3-0 in the third place match.
Senior Brandon Sommers finished in 5th place at 145 lbs. Brandon finished his CVCA Wrestling career as a three time state placer. Brandon along with Alex Utley are only the 3rd and 4th three time state place winners in
CVCA History joining the ranks of Harry Lester and Matt Smilek.

Sophomore Matt Meadows finished in eigth place in his second trip to the State Tournament.
Matt became only the sixth sophomore in CVCA History to place at States.
CVCA came in as underdogs in the team race qualifying 5 wrestlers this year and not qualifying 2 returning State Placers in Mike Ratay and Seth Powers to this year's tournament. However, the Lord can do mighty things with few numbers. Unable to catch Monroeville's impressive team finish with four state champions, the Royals were in a battle for second place with Chanel (10 State Qualifiers) and West Jefferson (7 State Qualifiers). CVCA placed all five wrestlers and socred 76 team points which were enough to finish 2nd in the state over 3rd place Chanel by 12.5 points.
Congratulations to all of the CVCA wrestlers, coaches, and parents on a great year! Praise God for the amazing opportunity that He has given us to glorify Him through this sport. Thank you to all of the wrestlers, coaches, parents, alumni, family, and friends that make up the CVCA Wrestling Family. Above all, Glory be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO IT ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD
