Parents:

     Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy offers a complete Jr. High School for Seventh and Eight Graders with athletic teams for boys soccer, football, wrestling, basketball, and track.   CVCA Jr. High Wrestling competes as a member of the Principal's Athletic Conference.  The Jr. High Wrestling Season begins in early November and concludes the first week of February.   The team will compete in several all day tournaments on Saturdays and a few Wednesday night matches throughout the season.  The Jr. High Wrestling team practices everyday after school from 3:30-5:30 PM.  There will also be a few practices held over Christmas Break. 

     Annually CVCA hosts a Middle School Dual Tournament on the third Saturday in January.  Parents are encouraged to help with concessions and hospitality room.  Also, the Jr. High Wrestling team  has several very fun events including an overnight wrestling trip to the Philo Tournament,  a Lazer Quest Party, and an End of the Year Pot-Luck Dinner.  For any questions regarding the upcoming Jr. High Wrestling season contact:   Coach Paul Charvat (216)316-3897  or pacharvat@msn.com

Coaching Staff :

Jr. High Coaches Don and Mike Havener

     The CVCA Jr. High Wrestling team is coached by Don Havener.  Don was the Head Wrestling Coach at Kenston High School in the 1970's where they won a State Team Championship in 1972.  Don is assisted by his son Mike Havener who served as a coach in 2007-2009.  Coach Havener brings a great deal of experience and an amazing heart for the Lord to the CVCA Wrestling program.Coach Don Havener lives in Hiram with his wife Kathy, and Mike Havener lives in Mantua with his wife Nancy and two CVCA Wrestlers Nick (9th) and Noah (7th).

History:

     CVCA Jr. High Wrestling has produced some of the greatest CVCA wrestlers in the History of the program.  Over 20 CVCA Jr. High Wrestlers have gone on to place at the High School State Tournament for CVCA (several of which who started wrestling for the first time as 7th graders at CVCA).  High School State Champions Harry Lester, Andy Vogel, Brett Smilek, Matt Smilek, and John Weakley all came up through the Jr. High Wrestling program at CVCA.  Since the Jr. High State Wrestling Tournament was started in 1999, the Jr. High Wrestling program has produced Countless Jr. High State Qualifiers, and Eight Jr. High State Placers including Three Jr. High State Champions!
